HAVE A FUN SUMMER!


The Harrisburg Parks and Recreation Department’s 2008 Summer Enrichment Program will run June 16 thru August 15, 2008. It will consist of twelve (12) playgrounds with FREE lunches provided by the Harrisburg School District, two (2) City pools for recreational swimming, with Learn-To-Swim Classes, and City Island Beach for recreational swimming.


The Summer Enrichment Program runs Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at each playground. This year included in the morning playground activities will be featured the SPARK FITNESS PROGRAM, an initiative of the Highmark Foundation. Each morning from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon on every staffed playground participants of all sizes will get “FIT AND FABULOUS” by participating in inclusive, team sports, games, and competitions. All ages and sizes are welcome. No one will be excluded or left behind. For many youth, this program will be a continuation of the highly successful after-school programs at numerous Harrisburg School District schools - during the Fall of 2007 and Winter/Spring of 2008.

Back by popular demand are the Sports and Cultural Camps and Girls’ Day Out and Boys’ Day Out. Other activities include arts & crafts, nutrition, fitness, dancing, new games, swimming, fishing, social skills, team sports, cultural field trips, educational classes, bowling, special activities days, golf, tennis, soccer, skating and many hours of fun.

FREE LUNCH PROGRAM
The Harrisburg City Schools’ FREE Lunch Program begins on Wednesday, June 18, and runs through August 15th at or near most staffed playgrounds. To receive a free lunch, youth under-17 years of age must sign-up the previous day, and all lunches must be consumed on-site. The initial lunch registration will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The first lunches will be served Thursday, June 19.

Playgrounds and recreation programs are closed on July 4th.City pools and City Island Beach will be open. Lunches on playgrounds will not be served on July 4th. Celebrate the holiday with a visit to the American MusicFest, Riverfront Park, July 4th, 5th, and 6th.
