PARKING: Parking for New Years Eve Celebration attendees is available at the Citys Market Square Garage (2nd and Chestnut Streets), for a Special Event Parking rate. Parking in the Walnut Street Garage and Chestnut Street Garage (4th and Chestnut Streets), and River Street Garages will be open but regular rates apply. The reduced rate only applies at the Market Square Garage. Free parking is available on City Island and on streets throughout the city. DETOUR INFO: Motorists are advised that Market Square will close at 9 a.m. on December 31, to allow for the construction of staging and other event stands. Traffic will be detoured onto Market, 4th and Walnut Streets through Monday afternoon, January 1st. Motorists are also advised that all vehicular access around Market Square will be shut down at 11:30 p.m. on New Years Eve, and will reopen after the fireworks display and cleanup has concluded.

2009-2010 M&T Bank New Years Eve Celebration on December 31st, now in its 21st year, has become South Central Pennsylvanias premier New Years Eve event. The M&T Bank New Years Eve Celebration activities for this year promise to be even more spectacular as we welcome the year 2010. Attended by thousands, portions of this family-oriented entertainment program are broadcast live on Television and Radio throughout the evening.

Market Square and City Government Center are alive with unique performers, musical entertainment and children activities. Non-stop musical entertainment will be featured on the M&T Countdown Stage and on the Childrens Stage located inside City Government Center, where families will be delighted by the childrens balloon artist and face painter and musical entertainers while they snack on cookies, hot chocolate and coffee, available free of charge.

At 60 seconds before midnight, Mayor Reed will signal the decent of the traditional lighted strawberry from the top of the Hilton Harrisburg and Towers, landing at precisely the moment the New Year begins and signaling the launch of the dramatic "street level" fireworks display that will illuminate the downtown sky and bring the year in with a bang!
