- Two major festivals, American MusicFest and Kipona routinely draw 200,000 to 350,000 per event over the July 4th and Labor Day holiday weekends. These festivals are complete with music, activities, food, rides and spectacular fireworks displays.
- Plays, movies, mini-festivals complement Gospel, Jazz, Blues and Reggae performances on the stage of the Reservoir Park Band Shell during the summer. The "Levitt Live!" Entertainment Series draws 1,000 to 8,000 attendees to the park on Fridays and Saturdays, June through September.
- Sunday evenings during July and August are filled with beautiful music as the Italian Lake Concert Series draws 500 to 2,000 attendees to free concerts on the Italian Lake Bandstand.
- The Harrisburg Holiday Parade is one of the regions largest parades. Comprised of numerous units including special recognition for military and veterans groups. The parade features dozens of marching bands, large helium filled balloons, civic groups and commercial entries. The parade kicks-off the Thanksgiving-Hanukkah-Christmas-Kwanzaa-New Years Eve season for the Greater Harrisburg Region. Attracting 10,000 or more along the lengthy parade route, the Harrisburg Holiday Parade is recorded for TV broadcast on Thanksgiving Day more than doubling total parade attendance figures.
- M&T Bank New Years Eve Celebration ends the year with a big bang as 10,000 + friends, families and visitors pack the Square in Downtown Harrisburg to groove to live bands on an outdoor stage and enjoy free coffee and hot chocolate at the childrens stage inside the MLK City Government Center. Numerous strolling entertainers, clowns, face painters and assorted vendors keep the crowd busy until the big moment when a giant strawberry drops in front of the Harrisburg Hilton and Towers triggering an impressive fireworks show shot from street level.
In addition to major special events, the Special Events Office also accepts commercial underwriting for numerous other programs administered by the department Director and the Recreation Bureau. Black History Month activities, The Summer Enrichment Program, Back-to-School back pack give-away, adult and youth fitness programming and seasonal workshops and contests are offered to thousands of Harrisburgs families and youth for free or at greatly reduced cost. These programs and activities are also all underwritten by Corporate Sponsorships, grants, private contributions and advertising.
